Colour& Nature is a group exhibition by six artists, working across painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles and film and video.

The exhibition is sponsored by The Friends of Brompton Cemetery and The Urgency of Art Prize 2026. It is proud to be included as part of the Brompton Chapel weekly events. The Brompton Chapel has, over the past two years, quietly established itself as an emerging venue for contemporary art. What was built as a place of stillness and remembrance has opened its doors to a run of exhibitions, inviting artists to respond to a space thick with history and story. Rather than treating the setting as a neutral white cube, each show has drawn something from the Chapel itself—its light, its silence, its sense of passage—so that the work and the place enter into a conversation. Showing here means accepting that context, and adding to it. Colour & Nature continues that line of thinking, bringing six artists into a space where the natural world is already close at hand.

Five of the six artists in this exhibition are winners of The Urgency of Art Prize 2026, and their work here marks the first time this group is brought together under one roof.

This marks the second major exhibition mounted by The Urgency of Art Magazine this year, and it is one we take particular pride in. To work alongside a space as beautiful as the Brompton Chapel and one that operates on a non-profit basis is a rare privilege. Together we have built a show that keeps its focus where it matters most: on the work of London's contemporary artists. Our thanks go, finally, to the two curators whose work runs quietly beneath all of this, Shushun Qi and Zena Flores-Montague, without whom none of it would have taken shape.

That sense of things in transit is most literal in Iliana Ortega-Alcázar's On the move: A record of colour, a screenprinted monotype that takes the imagery of colonial botanical expeditions to the Americas as its point of departure. The piece sits with the colonial fascination for newly encountered plants and the simultaneous compulsion to categorise and control them.

A parallel meditation on transformation runs through Jan Pimblett's One Thing Leads to Another, three related works built from driftwood, electronics and ceramic interventions. Pimblett stages deliberate tension between organic and manufactured matter to probe memory, place and lived experience.
